Tips for better digestion

Verdauung

An important aspect for our body weight is the functioning of our digestion. Digestion is part of the autonomic nervous system, which means that digestion itself cannot be consciously controlled by us. But how can we now know if our digestion is working perfectly? Poor digestion can have a significant impact on our well-being and health. Intestinal bacteria not only control our immune system, but are also responsible for certain emotions. The many sugary and chemically produced foods often overwhelm our digestive system and affect the intestinal wall. Bloating, gas venting or constipation are usually the first signs that something is wrong with digestion. The causes of poor digestion can have many reasons. Stress, allergies or certain eating habits are usually the reason why our digestive tract is bothering us. We have therefore listed below seven important tips, all of which should ensure better digestion.

1. drink a lot of water

Many people believe that fat, as a lubricant for the body, is responsible for transporting the necessary nutrients to the individual cells. In fact, it is water that transports all the important substances and materials throughout the body. You should therefore drink about 2 to 3 liters of water as a recommended daily ration. If you eat a lot of fruit, you can also drink a little less, since fruit also contains a lot of water.

2. eat slower

Digestion is a lengthy process. Everything you eat has to be broken down into small molecules so that it can be transported into the cells. Now, when you eat slower, more saliva mixes with the meal. The enzymes in your saliva break down the meal better before it gets to your stomach. Also, chewing the meal slowly can cause a feeling of fullness, which then causes you to eat less.

3. eat many small meals

Your body can process the ingested meals better if you eat smaller meals. Five or six small meals allow the organism to digest better and process the important nutrients faster. If you want to have this method confirmed in practice, take for example a multivitamin tablet. You will quickly notice that your urine turns an intense yellow color when you go to the toilet. This process occurs when the body quickly excretes the vitamin B again. However, if you chop the tablet into six small pieces and take them throughout the day, you will notice that the urine is no longer discolored. The reason is a better absorption of the vitamin B due to the smaller dosage, which is distributed during the day.

4. pay attention to the quality of the food

The quality of each food can have a significant impact on your digestion. Fat is not unhealthy, but if you consume too much and also bad sources of fat from chips, potato chips or other deep-fried products, then you will not only feel this in your body weight. Especially the important omega 3 fatty acids are good for the intestines and digestion. Omega 3 fatty acids can be found in fish, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, avocados and nuts.

5. sport promotes digestion

If you think that fitness and strength training are only important for building muscle and burning fat, you are mistaken. A regular workout sustainably increases the metabolism, which can additionally improve digestion. A high metabolism ensures better blood circulation in the body, which can also significantly improve digestion, which, along with the brain, needs the most blood for its function.

6. note your complaints

Many people who suffer from long-term digestive disorders cannot tolerate certain foods. Certain allergies, such as to lactose (lactose intolerance) or gluten, can then trigger considerable discomfort in the digestive tract. Legumes such as lentils, beans or peas are also known foods that can cause flatulence in the intestinal tract. If the physical discomfort occurs frequently, you should keep a diary of exactly when and how these digestive problems occur. This has the advantage that you will then know exactly how to adjust your diet plan so that you can eat and exercise without any problems. However, if the complaints occur permanently, you should take an allergy test with a competent doctor, who can then show you exactly which foods you are allergic to.

7. eat more fiber

Dietary fiber is indigestible fiber from plant foods that our body cannot use as a source of energy. There are the soluble dietary fibers, which are found especially in legumes. They swell strongly due to the binding of liquid and thus cause a long-lasting feeling of satiety. Fruits and vegetables contain the so-called insoluble dietary fibers. There is no dietary fiber in animal foods. All foods with a high fiber content, such as wholemeal bread, oatmeal or potatoes, therefore improve digestion.
