Admittedly, this is not always easy, as life holds countless situations that sabotage motivation and therefore training success. To help you avoid this trap, we would like to give you a few tips in the following article.

Tip 1 - Be guided by your goals

When it comes to weight training, having goals is by far the most important factor in helping you to fully exploit your performance potential. However, before you start setting yourself arbitrary goals, you should know that they must be formulated as specifically as possible so that you can actually implement them and check their degree of achievement. While the goal: "I want to become the best bench press lifter" is rather imprecise, the goal: "I want to increase my bench press weight by 15 kilograms in the next ten weeks" is much more likely to provide targeted motivation. In addition to the goal of improving by 15 kilograms, the deadline you set plays a particularly important role in this context, as it confronts you with positive stress in the form of time pressure. This approach has been proven to help you maintain your motivation level over a longer period of time. To avoid disappointment, however, you must ensure that the relevant goals can be achieved within the defined period.

Tip 2 - Review your personal goals every week

When we think about goals, we usually come up with the good intentions we made on New Year's Eve. Question yourself for once: How many of these goals have you already said goodbye to by mid-January? No, you don't have to answer that, because the answer is: "Almost all of them." The main reason for this is that the trivial things of everyday life keep you from doing them, whether it's the family, the washing up, overtime, the annual tax return or even just that good friend who spontaneously wants to go for a drink. In order to achieve the goals you have set yourself, you need to remind yourself of them again and again, at least once a week. According to experts, the best way to do this is to write down your goals and prioritize them accordingly. This is the only way to keep everyday distractions in check in favor of your goals.

Tip 3 - Don't be afraid to change fitness club

In most cases, a change of scenery is not only good for your private life, but can also serve as an initial spark for your athletic development. While it is important to find a place within your own four walls where there is a certain regularity and calm, this particular aspect is extremely counterproductive when it comes to your own gym. The same equipment, people and classes all too quickly lead to a dangerous routine that can put the brakes on your enthusiasm in the long run. If you find yourself in such a situation, you shouldn't shy away from initiating a change of scenery and switching gyms. It's hard to believe what a motivational boost a set of new barbells, for example, can give you. What's more, the new community can also motivate you to always train to the limit.

Tip 4 - Remember that you're not just training for yourself

You may think that you are only training for yourself. Of course, this is primarily true, as you are not accountable to anyone other than yourself. However, you should break out of this mental prison and realize that exercising will keep you healthy in the long run, which will of course also benefit your family. Realize that with every repetition, you are doing something to see your children, grandchildren and perhaps even great-grandchildren grow up and go through life with vitality into your old age without suffering from various ailments like other people. There can hardly be a better motivation, can there?

Tip 5 - Learn to motivate yourself

Motivational games and topic-specific articles like this one are of course helpful, but only work up to a certain point when it comes to increasing motivation. From this point onwards, you have to learn to motivate yourself and make it clear to yourself why you want to achieve a specific goal in order to be successful in the long term. Remember, unlike many other people, you have the privilege of being able to actively support your body. Make the most of your opportunities!
