Water retention during menstruation - you can do that

You're not alone. Water retention during menstruation is widespread.

Premenstrual syndrome

In medicine, there are several names for the increased storage of fluids in women who are otherwise completely healthy. Most commonly, the term "premenstrual syndrome" is used because the symptoms mainly occur in the days before menstruation. In most women, the first edema is noticeable shortly after ovulation. How long the water retention stays varies from person to person. While some ladies only struggle with them in the days leading up to the period, other women suffer up to two weeks (including the period).

The causes are not entirely clear. For this reason, the deposits during the period are called cyclic-idiopathic edema. The same symptoms can also occur almost independently of menstruation (including wet-warm weather), which is why the neutral term fluid retention syndrome is equally correct.

Why is there unwanted water retention during menstruation?

Which complaints occur?

Very uncomfortable are agonizing headaches and in many cases also complaints in the abdominal area (flatulence, feelings of fullness, increased intestinal activity including noise, constipation, etc.). Often the lower abdomen is slightly arched. Most women complain that they are constantly beaten and tired during this phase.
