5 tips to increase your water consumption

5 tips

In the perception of most trainers Water is not one of the elementary nutrients and is only at the bottom of the list of priorities. As a result, many athletes find it difficult to consume enough fluids, which can have significant consequences for their health and performance. To make it easier for you to increase your water consumption, we have put together 5 tips that may seem a little strange, but are incredibly effective.

Tip 1 - There should always be something to drink in your immediate vicinity

A common reason that prevents you from drinking enough fluids is simply the fact that there is often nothing to drink within easy reach. To tackle this unacceptable situation, which primarily has a negative impact on your performance, you should prepare your environment and place drinks wherever you prefer to be. By placing drinks on your desk, next to your bed, in your living room or in your car, you will always be reminded to take a sip, making it easy to meet your hydration needs throughout the day.

Tip 2 - Add some flavor to your water

In the long run, there is hardly anything more boring for many exercisers than drinking only water without any flavor all day long. However, as most flavored drinks are usually high in sugar, you need to find a healthier alternative. Fortunately, the dietary supplement industry has responded to this obvious need in recent years by launching numerous virtually calorie-free products on the market. Such products are usually offered either in the form of powders or in the form of so-called flavor drops in a wide variety of flavors, so that you can give your water a completely individual taste depending on your mood. Of course, you can also simply add a few lemon slices or, for example, raspberries or peppermint leaves.

Tip 3 - Decorate your water bottle

To make drinking a little more fun, you should banish boring drinks bottles from your life and make your own very special container in their place. Let your creativity run wild and decorate your bottle with stickers, fluorescent colors or whatever you like. The more eye-catching, the better, because every time you look at your work of art, you'll automatically think about taking a big sip.

Tip 4 - Reach for a straw

Ok, admittedly, a classic straw is not necessarily suitable for setting off storms of enthusiasm that encourage you to drink. Once again, this is where your creativity comes to the rescue, because what's to stop you from using the materials of your choice to make the ultimate straw that everyone is sure to envy?

Tip 5 - Make it a habit to always take a drink in between meals

Ok, now that the previous tips have mainly called for your ingenuity, our last piece of advice is much simpler. You should simply get into the habit of taking a sip every now and then while you're waiting for the coffee machine to finish or doing housework, for example. One advantage of this approach is that your fluid intake is spread out in small doses throughout the day so that it can be absorbed evenly and is not excreted in large parts unused, as is the case if you often consume large quantities at once.
