Long before green smoothies and chia seeds came into vogue, they belonged to Flaxseed already part of the human diet and have earned the reputation of a health food. Today, however, these power seeds are eclipsed by all sorts of modern superfoods. That's an absolute shame, because it means the seeds don't get the attention they deserve. If you want to have a healthy blood pressure or get it into the normal range, flax seeds can prove to be extremely useful. In this regard, a study published in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that long-term intake of the small seeds can definitely improve blood pressure levels. This effect is due to the mixture of healthy fats as well as fiber and some unique phytochemicals contained in them. Eating the whole seeds has also been shown to be significantly more effective than using linseed oil in this regard.

Reason 2 - Inhibition of inflammatory processes and improved regeneration.

A balanced ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids helps your body fight inflammatory reactions. Since in our mixed diet there is a clear imbalance in favor of omega-6 fatty acids, it is worthwhile to increase the omega-3 concentration, for example, with flaxseed products. In addition, these special omega-3 fatty acids have the advantage that they improve your regeneration, especially after heavy training sessions.

This means that real consumption is significantly below the recommended dose of 38 grams for men and 25 grams for women from a health point of view. Why this is important is obvious, because dietary fiber helps regulate blood sugar and thus also prevents too much energy from being stored in the form of fat. Again, the solution is to consume the little power seeds, as each teaspoon contains a good 2 grams of fiber. Accordingly, the seeds can be used particularly well in muesli as well as in specially prepared bread to fill up on additional fiber.

Reason 4 - The little seeds keep your digestion in shape

Our digestive tract is home to countless different bacteria and microorganisms that ensure that we can optimally digest our food. However, in order to maintain this healthy population, the microorganisms also need nutrients, just like we do. The nutrients needed by these special little helpers in the intestines are dietary fibers, of which flaxseed is known to provide some. The positive effect of regular flaxseed consumption was also confirmed by a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, in which the number of urgently needed intestinal bacteria increased significantly within six weeks.

Reason 5 - They keep your heart healthy

Incorporating higher quality foods into your diet and exercising harder is the best way to a healthy heart. However, eating a serving of flaxseed every day to reap its benefits is just as good for your heart. Why? Quite simply, the seeds provide lasting stabilization of cholesterol levels through the synergistic effects of fiber and phytochemicals, among other things.
